Here are the books and comics I’m most looking forward to that come out in December!

Pirate Stew by Neil Gaiman and Chris Riddell
Release Date: December 1st
A new children’s book written by Gaiman and illustrated by Riddell, Pirate Stew promises to be a fantastical tale full of swashbuckling adventure. I love Gaiman and his children’s books are always a fun time.

The Green Lantern: Season Two, Vol. 1 by Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp
Release Date: December 1st
The first volume in the second season of Morrison and Sharp’s team up on Green Lantern. I enjoyed the first season quite a bit. It feels throwback and has all of the hallmark Morrison strangeness. Sharp’s art fits well with what Morrison is doing. I’m excited for season two!

The Faraway Collection by various authors
Release Date: December 15th
The Faraway collection is a series of five short stories from a group of very talented authors put together by Amazon. The authors include, Rainbow Rowell, Nic Stone, Soman Chainani, Ken Liu, and Gayle Forman. I’ve like most of what I’ve read from these authors and these takes on classic fairy tales are sure to be entertaining one-shots.

Adventureman Vol. 1 by Matt Fraction, Terry Dodson, and Rachel Dodson
Release Date: December 15th
Adventureman is a creator-owned series from Matt Fraction and the Dodson’s. It promises a ton of pulp action. With Fraction’s signature wit and the Dodson’s beautiful art, this one sounds like it has the makings of something special.

Awaken Online: Inferno: Tarot Series, Book 3 (audiobook) by Travis Bagwell
Release Date: December 17th
The book version of Inferno came out in October, but I’m going to cheat a bit and include the audiobook, since that’s usually how I consume the Awaken Online series and it comes out in December! Inferno brings an end to the Tarot trilogy that contains a side-story following Finn and his adventures in AO. This series hasn’t reached the same heights as the main series, but it’s still been a fun side-quest that turned into something much more.

Ascender, Vol. 3 by Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen
Release Date: December 29th
The third volume in the Ascender series from Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen. I thought it was going to be a tall task living up to Descender, but the creative team has done a great job shifting to a narrative more based in fantasy than sci-fi. It’s one of my favorite current comics series.

Black Canary: Breaking Silence by Alexandra Monir
Release Date: December 29th
Breaking Silence is the fifth entry in the DC Icons series of YA novels. This book will focus on Black Canary’s origin in a dystopic Gotham where women have lost their rights. I’ve enjoyed the books in this series so far and am looking forward to this one introducing Black Canary.
Those are just some of the many, many great new books that are coming out in December.
